Macé Ruette binding 1633

(click on this image to see a 300dpi enlargement)

The reproduction of this binding is found in a 1993 Ader Tajan auction (Paris 4 juin) Catalogue. I have detailed this binding previously (click here to see a full description) The clover leaf shaped fleuron (mr-27) that has been used in the spine compartments, is a classic Macé Ruette tool and leads me to think that this really may be a Macé Ruette binding. It is without a doubt one of the best bindings in the Ruette collection, and the reproduction of it is of a quality that has allowed me to study closely the tools (see also this page)
